Rockstar recently launched the snappily titled; Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition, on Nintendo Switch, PS4/5, Xbox, and PC. To say the reception has been underwhelming is an understatement, especially on Switch where issues with performance and framerate make the collection an embarrassing release for a company renowned for quality.
We dive into it more in our full Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition Switch review, but issues go beyond performance, as even the remastered character models and animations look dreadful, while strange changes to visual effects like rain and fog further dampen what should be a classic package.
The bright side is that Rockstar has already announced that it’s “working to improve and update overall performance” after putting the PC version back up for sale. It had been delisted from stores for days as Rockstar dealt with code unintentionally left within the game that alluded to songs cut from the soundtrack, and the infamous ‘Hot Coffee’ mission. While no specifics have been given on the Nintendo Switch platform yet, it seems to be the worst affected of all the releases, so a (hopefully rather large) patch should be in the works.
You can read Rockstar’s full statement below, including more details over at the Rockstar Blog.
