Hello gentle readers, and welcome to the SwitchArcade Round-Up for April 6th, 2022. It’s a bit of a calm before the storm situation today, with only a few new releases and a rather slim list of new sales to check out. Don’t worry, tomorrow is going to be a very big day for new games. For now, we’ve got a decent-looking vertical shooter, a new installment in a popular indie horror series, and… sigh, Pix Arts. Just keep telling yourself that Chrono Cross is tomorrow and you’ll be fine. Let’s get to it!
New Releases
Z-Warp ($6.99)
From publisher eastasiasoft and developer Panda Indie Studio comes this vertically-scrolling bullet-hell shoot-em-up. It offers a couple of different modes including a story campaign and an endless mode. The gameplay seems fairly orthodox, but you can charge up a special move to deploy when you’re in a pinch. Without putting my hands on it I can’t really go into too many details about its scoring system and the like, but it certainly seems well-made enough for what it is.
Outbreak: Contagious Memories ($29.99)
I think this is something like the seventh game in this series to hit the Switch? They must be doing quite well with them. Anyway, it’s another survival horror game. You can play alone or bring a friend along in the local co-op multiplayer mode. Play in first person, third person, or with a classic fixed-camera viewpoint. There’s an additional mode that offers more of an arcade-style experience too, among other unlockable goodies. You probably made your decision as to whether or not you’re buying this before you even read a word about it, so I’ll just move along now.
Worm Run ($2.99)
Pix Arts has more junk for us today. It’s probably a template flip but I’m too tired to bother looking anymore. This one is an endless runner of sorts where you play as a worm, moving left and right to avoid obstacles, increase your body size, and collect coins. Those coins can be used to unlock twenty different characters.
Sales
(North American eShop, US Prices)
Now those are some slim pickings. Kitiara Fables and Cat Quest II are the obvious stand-out games here. Beyond that, it’s really just the usual suspects. And not many of them, at that. The outbox is rather big, so perhaps your attention is best focused there. Ubisoft’s latest round of sales is wrapping up, along with some Kairosoft sims, Circle Entertainment goodies, and a few of FDG’s finest. There isn’t anything there that shouldn’t be on sale again soon enough beyond perhaps Rabi-Ribi, but you may want to pick a few things up anyway.
